Past Proof

Bennigan's (GA)

A high-quality art print of a vintage 1980s matchbook from Bennigan’s, the Irish pub-themed American restaurant chain founded in 1976.

Established in Atlanta, Georgia, by restaurateur Norman E. Brinker, Bennigan’s was among the pioneers of the casual dining concept in the United States. The chain quickly gained popularity for its warm, pub-like atmosphere and a menu that blended American comfort food with Irish-inspired dishes. Signature items included the Monte Cristo sandwich, Oh, Baby Back Ribs, and the Death by Chocolate dessert.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Bennigan’s expanded rapidly, becoming a staple in the American dining scene with over 300 locations nationwide and internationally.  However, facing increased competition and changing consumer preferences, the chain filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2008, leading to the closure of many company-owned locations.

In 2015, Bennigan’s was acquired by Legendary Restaurant Brands, LLC, which initiated efforts to revitalize the brand. Today, Bennigan’s operates a smaller number of locations, both domestically and internationally, and continues to serve its classic menu items while introducing new offerings to appeal to contemporary diners.
